Algebra Q # 17

0. If 50% of (x - y) = 30% of (x + y), what per cent of x is y?

  • Option : C
  • Explanation : 50% of (x-y) = 30% of (x + y)
    ⇒ (50/100) (x - y) = (30/100) (x + y)
    ⇒ 5x - 5y = 3x + 3y ⇒ 2x = 8y ⇒ x = 4y
    Required percentage = y/x ×  1000%
    = (y/4y) x 100% = 25%
